Two Victims Revealed in the Providence Campus Shooting as Law Enforcement Continue Search for Killer.
Two students who were killed in Saturday’s mass shooting at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their killer persisted following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect questioned in the case.
Remembering Ella Cook
Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.
She served as vice-president of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies on social media, remarking: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, especially her parents.”
The Second Victim
The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, according to relatives.
His name was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.
Details of the Attack
An additional nine individuals were hurt in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.
Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a raid at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was being released.
“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.
He continued, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you have to regroup and head another way, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”
Community Anxiety
Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “It is expected to provoke fresh anxiety for our public”.
The assailant discharged a weapon inside a room in the engineering facility on Saturday afternoon, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a law enforcement official informed the news agency.
Police that searched the hotel recovered two firearms and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was arrested, as was reported.
The Wounded Victims
Among those wounded, one student was released from the hospital, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, authorities stated on Sunday.
A private school, a private K-12 school in Durham, North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.
Additional Memorials
Cook was honored at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at Brown she was a radiant presence in that institution as well.”
Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and fellow classmates,” he said.
The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, companions, and schoolmates and lament the passing of his potential.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about 7,300 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 shooting incidents recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to statistics. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
